Love
and Customary Law
Two
years ago, I had a girl friend, which is kind and respectful in talking. He is
an honest woman; thus, I trust her utterly and there is no doubt between us,
though we were so far apart. Moreover, there were many things and sweet
memories that cannot be forgotten with her, such as relax in Alam Mayang Park,
jolly joking together and many others. However, one day when I had holiday and returned
home, my parents interrogated me about my relationship with her, and her family
interrogated her as well. My parents told me all about my status and the rule in
the village. As a result, I was not allowed to have a relationship with her due
to customary regulations in force from the past until now. Indeed, it was
hurting so much; yet, I had a relationship with her since long. Nevertheless, the customary should be obeyed
if I still want to be with my family and recognized as part of the society in my
village. In brief, my family and community will ignore me unless I end the
relationship with her soon. Now, we
have to split up, she already has a new life then. I knew that she was a good girl, but
it does not mean she should be in my life always. God knows everything. I even
slowly get over it and can focus on what I am supposed to do right now.
